Our product range consists of bulk and packaged emulsion as well as ANFO — the right product for each customer's needs, manufactured right here in New Zealand.
Manufactured and distributed by Prime Explosives, the PrimeX range is engineered for performance, reliability and safety across surface and underground applications.
Water-resistant bulk explosives designed for pumped delivery directly into blast holes — suited to wet-hole blasting in small to medium diameter open-cut mining. Can be used as a 100% emulsion or blended with up to 40% ANFO by weight.
A bulk emulsion explosive designed for augered delivery from bulk trucks — suited to dry or dewatered conditions in small to medium diameter open-cut mining. Blends with ANFO to create Heavy ANFO mixes with up to 50% emulsion by weight.
A primer-sensitive bulk emulsion designed to be pumped from an underground pump unit — formulated for the demands of underground operations where reliable downhole delivery is essential.
Kaimai Mamaku Ranges
Prime Explosives operates a purpose-built emulsion manufacturing facility within the Kaimai Mamaku Ranges, supplying high-quality explosives products and services across both the North and South Islands.
Our South Island Mobile Manufacturing Units (MMUs) are capable of producing a 50/50 water-resistant Heavy ANFO blend, designed to perform reliably in challenging ground conditions. This capability enables blast holes to be loaded to depths of up to 80 metres while supporting optimised drill patterns and improved operational efficiency.
As a supplier of commercial explosives, we hold large warehouse facilities and explosive magazines throughout New Zealand to supply customers in a timely manner.
A free-flowing blasting agent comprising approximately 94% low-density ammonium nitrate and 6% diesel fuel oil, with added colouring for identification. Widely used in dry-hole applications — from large-diameter mining holes (375 mm+) to smaller quarry holes (from 25 mm).
Low-density ammonium nitrate in porous prilled form, designed for efficient absorption of fuel oil and consistent blending with other blasting agents. Uniform prill size ensures reliable performance, while an anti-caking coating maintains free-flowing properties.
Cartridge emulsion explosive for general blasting applications (excluding underground coal mines). Sensitive to a No. 8 detonator and available in diameters from 25 mm to 90 mm, supplied in 18 kg and 25 kg cases.
HDP boosters are high-density pentolite boosters designed to provide reliable initiation of bulk and packaged explosives. Their high detonation performance provides effective energy transfer to the main explosive charge, supporting consistent and dependable initiation. Robust and versatile, HDP boosters are suitable for a range of quarrying, mining and civil blasting applications.
A flexible shock tube system for non-electric blasting. The reactive inner coating transmits a low-energy signal at approximately 2,000 m/sec with minimal external disturbance. It can be cut and spliced in the field for custom lengths and safe initiation from a distance, in both surface and underground applications.
Electronic and non-electric initiation systems delivering accurate, well-sequenced blasts across surface, underground and underwater applications.
Electronic detonators provide precise, individually programmable delay timing for each blast hole, allowing the firing sequence to be accurately tailored to the blast design and site conditions. This level of timing control can optimise fragmentation and rock movement while assisting with the management of ground vibration, airblast and overall blast performance. Electronic initiation is particularly suited to complex blast designs, sensitive environments and applications requiring highly accurate and reliable firing sequences.
Non-electric downhole detonators provide reliable delay initiation using shock tube technology to transmit the firing signal directly to the detonator within the blasthole. Available in a range of delay periods, they allow blast sequences to be designed to suit specific ground conditions and performance requirements. Their robust, electrically insensitive design makes them well suited to quarrying, civil, surface mining and underground non-coal blasting applications where dependable and consistent initiation is required.
Programmable surface connectors provide flexible delay timing between blast holes and rows, allowing the surface initiation sequence to be configured to suit the blast design, geology and site conditions. This provides greater control over blast progression and can assist with optimising fragmentation and rock movement while managing ground vibration, fly-rock and overall blast performance. Programmable surface delays offer a versatile initiation solution across a wide range of blasting applications.
