Prime Explosives operates as a Major Hazard Facility under New Zealand's health and safety regime. Compliance isn't a box-tick for us — it's the foundation of how we run every site.
Every team member is trained, certified and accountable. We plan each blast and drill program around the safety of our crew, the client's site and the public, and we continually review and improve our systems.
Major Hazard Facility
We work within the frameworks set by the country's regulators for hazardous substances and explosives.
Our health and safety management runs on a mobile app — hazard reporting, JSAs, inductions and audits captured live from the field, so nothing slips through the cracks.
Our people hold the relevant certificates of competency and undertake ongoing in-house and external training to maintain and develop their skills. Regular training keeps our crews current with industry regulations, equipment, operating procedures and best practice, supporting a consistently high standard of safety and competency across our operations.
Each blast is designed, modelled and controlled — managing vibration, fly-rock and exclusion zones to protect people, property and the environment.
Our explosives vehicles, mobile manufacturing units and associated equipment are maintained under rigorous inspection and preventative maintenance programs. Regular servicing, safety checks and equipment inspections ensure critical transport, storage and explosives mixing systems remain compliant, reliable and fit for purpose. This disciplined approach to maintenance supports the safe manufacture and delivery of explosives and reduces operational risk across every blast.
We maintain full compliance with NZ Transport Agency requirements for the safe carriage of explosives and hazardous substances on the road.
We work closely with the EPA, WorkSafe NZ and specialist safety advisors to continuously strengthen our systems and stay ahead of best practice.
